Youth & Family Ministry Coordinator

Objective:

  • To assure the mission of The Salvation Army in all Weetamah Ministries.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated competence in Pastoral Ministry, Church Leadership, Social Work Youth and Family Ministries.
  • Skilled in management of people, able to provide leadership within a team framework.
  • Effective skills in oral/written communication, listening, organizational planning, time management, and counseling.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective programs for Youth and Children
  • Ability to interact cross-culturally.
  • Understanding of Urban Issues, Aboriginal Culture and Youth Culture. 
  • Class IV Drivers License.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Post-Secondary degree in related fields.
  • Willing to submit to and be cleared by Police Record Check and Provincial Child Abuse Check.

Supervision:

  • Responsible to the Ministry Director for all areas of the job description

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to Youth and family Ministries
  • To assist as required with, Weetamah Street Ministry, Urban Café, and other community outreach initiatives.
  • Assure the recruitment, training and deployment of volunteers / students and leaders for Weetamah Youth & Family Ministries.
  • Responsible for the future development and delivery of Midnight Challenge, Kids Club, After School Homework Clubs, Sunday School program and worship services
  • Responsible for the future development of prevention and intervention strategies for at risk youth and children in consultation with Ministry Director.
  • Encourage the development of relationships and partnerships with other inner city agencies, churches, and community organizations.
  • Encourage the social-spiritual growth and leadership development of Youth and Children within the community through visitation, mentoring, and discipleship.
  • Provide leadership and support, in conjunction with the Ministries Director, for annual events / programs (Christmas Kettle Campaign, Seasonal Dinners, and other special events). 
  • Assure all records, correspondence, statistics, etc. pertaining to Weetamah ministries are kept up to date.)
  • Assist with Congregational Ministry as required (preaching, worship etc.)
  • Assist with annual budget related to area of Ministry in conjunction with Ministry Director.
  • Responsible for the development of new ministry initiatives, in conjunction with Ministry Director.  Prepare any necessary contracts, proposals, etc. required for such initiatives.  

Organizational Responsibilites:

  • Represents The Salvation Army on specific committees as needed
  • Is a member of the Weetamah Corps Council and Census Board
  • Represents the Salvation Army in the community, with respect to issues pertaining to Weetamah Outreach Initiatives.
  • Adhere to standards consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army mission statement.
  • Engage in regular supervision with supervisor at mutually determined intervals and engage in formal evaluations with supervisor at six and twelve months in the first year of employment and annually thereafter.
